Cancer Immunotherapy is key to the turn in this cancer fight. In Cancer Immunotherapy the patient's own immune system is trained to attack their cancer cells just as if they were attacking an everyday germ. Like our bodies have been defeating microbes over the eons, immunotherapy advances allow immune cells to identify a cancer cell, latch on, perforate the cell walls so the cytoplasm oozes out, inject enzymes that dissolve the cell internal structures and finally inject granzynes that chop up the DNA in the nucleus. Instead of disfiguring surgeries, radiation and debilitating chemotherapy, immunotherapy patients feel like they have a case of the flu. Given a choice, no man, woman or parent of a child would select mastectomies, gamma rays or worse than chemo-induced hair loss when Cancer Immunotherapy becomes an approved alternative.

Mentor Capital is on the forefront across this sector of cancer breakthroughs. In early 2009, there was no comprehensive cancer immunotherapy index. Just after July 10th, 2009, Mentor Capital researched and established one with its proprietary Mentor Capital Cancer Immunotherapy Index (tm) comprised of the first ten leading sector companies. Initially an information only index, the ensuing calculated gains were double that of the biotech sector and triple that of the S&P 500. Investor inquiries and involvement with index companies soon followed. In December 2009, Mentor Capital announced the broadening of its major initial investment in one Cancer Immunotherapy leader, Quantum Immunologics, into investments across the sector via new actively managed investments across the Index. In order to target a higher yet return in what has proven to be an already high growth sector, Mentor Capital will make an investment in each company in the CI Index, but significantly overweight its positions in those CI Index companies with the greatest medical and investment promise. 
 
In graduate school at MIT it was exciting to be at the forefront of cancer medical technology working with Mass General Hospital staff and studying the application of proton radiology to attack difficult to treat cancers. Meeting now with chief scientists and pushing them to the limits of human knowledge to weigh the true potential of their cancer treatment discoveries is, for me, a reward in itself.
